About Me
DeAndre Mitchell, a biologist and photographer, uses his knowledge of light as a particle to further enhance his photographic expertise. While embarking on his professional photographic journey, DeAndre’s work started leaning towards an ambiguous/dreamy style. Rather than just taking traditionally composed photos, he took pictures of regular, mundane things in a way that you wouldn’t normally see them. Or maybe, it played back in your head as a distorted memory or dream. Technically, DeAndre is an editorial and commercial photographer by trade, but tries to emphasize these motifs when shooting any body of work. This led him to prioritize shots that spotlight the mundane, but beautiful moments we often overlook. All of DeAndre’s work is shot on film and often printed in the darkroom. Similar to a science lab, he started experimenting with light in unconventional ways. Taking inspiration from the greats before him like Gordon Parks, Paolo Roversi and Man Ray, DeAndre continues to push his practice beyond producing a simple photograph.
